And this, when one addresses inanimate things, is a figure which is called by rhetoricians, Prosopopoeia, and the Poets often use it.

Y es éste, que yo, antes de llegar a su composición, pareciéndome que esta dama habíaseme mostrado un tanto orgullosa y altiva, hice una baladita, en la cual llamé a esta dama orgullosa y despiadada, lo cual parece contrario a lo que más arriba se dice. Y por eso me dirijo a la canción, y so color de enseñarle cómo es menester que se disculpe, la disculpo; y a esta figura de hablar a las cosas inanimadas, llaman los retóricos Prosopopeya, y úsanla muy a menudo los poetas.
