Under article 10 of Act No. 18076, Uruguay is obliged, when dealing with asylum requests, to respect certain principles: non-discrimination, a prohibition on turning people back at the border and on direct or indirect refoulement to a country where the person’s life, physical, moral or intellectual integrity, freedom or safety are threatened, non-penalization of illegal entry into the country, the most favourable interpretation and treatment, and confidentiality.

El artículo 10 de la Ley 18076 obliga al Estado uruguayo, ante toda solicitud de refugio, a respetar ciertos principios, a saber, no discriminación, no rechazo en la frontera, no devolución directa o indirecta al país donde su vida, integridad física, moral e intelectual, libertad o seguridad están en peligro, la no sanción por ingreso ilegal al país, una interpretación y trato más favorable así como la confidencialidad.

L’article 10 de la loi no 18076 oblige l’État, lors d’une demande d’asile, à respecter certains principes, à savoir: non-discrimination, non-renvoi à la frontière, non-refoulement direct ou indirect vers le pays où la vie, l’intégrité physique, morale et intellectuelle, la liberté ou la sécurité sont en danger, non-application de sanctions pour entrée illégale dans le pays, une interprétation et un traitement plus favorable, ainsi que le respect de la confidentialité.
