(Source: INE) Although the percentage of workers is clearly a majority in the service sector (see table), its weight is quite lower than the regional mean, and it is not crazy to state that still at present, economy in Boal is based to a large extent on cattle farming, which employs almost one third of the working population, and is mainly destined to milk production, being Boal the main producer among the western municipalities in Asturias.

(Fuente: INE) Aunque por el porcentaje de ocupados es claramente mayoritario el sector servicios (ver tabla), su peso resulta ser bastante inferior a la media regional, y no es descabellado afirmar que, aún hoy en día, la economía boalesa está en gran medida basada en la ganadería, que emplea a casi un tercio de la población activa, y en especial en la cabaña vacuna, destinada a la producción láctea, siendo Boal el principal productor de los concejos occidentales.
