The Silver fir (Abies alba – Mill.1768) was already diffused on our planet 55 million of years ago and still now this, considered as one of the most beautiful and imposing European conifers, spreads its range (South-European orophyte) from a main alpine-central European nucleus (Alps, Jura, Black Forest) radiating up to the Sudetes and the Carpathians, the Balkans, up to get in contact with the range of the Abies cephalonica, up to Aspromonte, Corsica, Auvergne and the Pyrenees.

El Abeto blanco (Abies alba – Mill.1768) ya estaba distribuido por nuestro planeta hace 55 millones de años y aún ahora esta especie, considerada una de las más bonitas e imponentes coníferas europeas, extiende su área de distribución (orofita sur-europea) desde un núcleo principal Abies cephalonica, y hasta el Aspromonte, Córcega, Auvernia y los Pirineos. El nombre clásico del género, usado desde tiempos de Virgilio, parece derivar de la raíz sánscrita “abh”, manar, debido a la resina que baja a lo largo de la corteza de los troncos.
