The development of medicines nowadays is often more beneficial to smaller groups, and the work on the human genome seems to point in that direction, in that medicines are being designed to benefit ever-smaller groups, which means that the recovery of costs by the drug companies becomes increasingly difficult before a drug falls out of patent.
