Recognising that the green economy is a means to sustainable development and poverty eradication, the Leaders stressed the significance of this conference in addressing the emerging sustainable development challenges associated with the multiple global issues such as food price volatility and food security, energy scarcity and energy access, unsustainable patterns of consumption and production, challenges of rapid urbanization, land degradation and climate change.

इस बात को स्वीकार करते हुए कि हरित अर्थव्यवस्था सतत विकास एवं गरीबी उन्मूलन का एक मार्ग हो सकती है, सभी नेताओं ने सतत विकास से संबद्ध उभरती चुनौतियों का समाधान करने में इस सम्मेलन के महत्व पर बल दिया। इसके साथ ही इसके जरिए खाद्य पदार्थों के मूल्य में होने वाले उतार-चढ़ाव, खाद्य सुरक्षा, ऊर्जा की कमी एवं ऊर्जा तक पहुंच, खपत एवं उत्पादन के अस्थायी तरीकों, त्वरित शहरीकरण की चुनौतियों, भू-विकृति एवं जलवायु परिवर्तन से संबद्ध चुनौतियों का भी मुकाबला किया जा सकेगा।
