وقد سعت الدراسة الاستقصائية إلى تحديد أحدث الاكتشافات في مجال التعدين في قاع البحار العميقة، من حيث اتصالها باستغلال العقيدات المتعددة المعادن، وإلى تحليل البيانات المتعلقة ببراءات الاختراع بغية تحديد الاتجاهات في تكنولوجيا التعدين في قاع البحار.

The survey sought to define the state of the art in deep seabed mining as it relates to polymetallic nodule exploitation and to analyse the patent data with a view to identifying trends in seabed mining technology.
