Leiden University Libraries took over in 2013 the colonial collections including the entire map collections (colonial and modern) of the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) and in 2014 the complete collection of the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (KITLV).

De bibliotheek ondersteunt auteurs van de Universiteit Leiden via een Auteursrechten Informatiepunt In 2013 nam de UBL de koloniale collecties en de complete kaartcollectie (koloniaal en modern) over van het Koninklijk Instituut voor de Tropen (KIT) en in 2014 de complete collectie van het Koninklijk Instituut voor Taal-, Land- en Volkenkunde (KITLV).
