For as in olden time when mankind came forth from Noe's ark, God set His "bow in the clouds" (Genesis ix, 13), shining as the sign of a friendly covenant; so in the most turbulent times of a more recent age, when the Jansenist heresy, the most crafty of them all, hostile to love and piety towards God, was creeping in and preaching that God was not to be loved as a father but rather to be feared as an implacable judge; then the most benign Jesus showed his own most Sacred Heart to the nations lifted up as a standard of peace and charity portending no doubtful victory in the combat.

Pues, así como en otro tiempo quiso Dios que a los ojos del humano linaje que salía del arca de Noé resplandeciera como signo de pacto de amistad «el arco que aparece en las nubes» (Gén 2, 14), así en los turbulentísimos tiempos de la moderna edad, serpeando la herejía jansenista, la más astuta de todas, enemiga del amor de Dios y de la piedad, que predicaba que no tanto ha de amarse a Dios como padre cuanto temérsele como implacable juez, el benignísimo Jesús mostró su corazón como bandera de paz y caridad desplegada sobre las gentes, asegurando cierta la victoria en el combate.

Infatti, come già al genere umano, che usciva dall’arca di Noè, la bontà di Dio volle che riducesse il segno della contratta amicizia, « l’arcobaleno che appare tra le nubi » [5], così negli agitatissimi tempi moderni, quando serpeggiava l’eresia più scaltra di tutte, quella eresia giansenista — nemica all’amore e alla pietà verso Dio — che predicava un Dio non tanto da amare come padre quanto da temere come giudice implacabile, il benignissimo Gesù mostrò ai popoli il suo Cuore Sacratissimo quale spiegato vessillo di pace e di carità, assicurando indubbia vittoria nella battaglia.
