In a special way, those who are formally dedicated to politics – to which the Pontiffs, ever since Pius XII, have referred to as a “noble form of charity” (see Pope Francis, Message to the Congress organized by CAL-CELAM, XII/2017) – are required to live “with passion their service to the peoples, vibrating with the intimate fabric of their ethos and their culture, in solidarity with their sufferings and hopes; politicians who put the common good before their private interests, who are not intimidated by the great financial and media powers, competent and patient in the face of complex problems, open to listening and learning in democratic dialogue, combining the search for justice with mercy and reconciliation” (ibid.).

De modo especial, a aquellos que se dedican formalmente a la política ―a la que los Pontífices, a partir de Pío XII, se referirán como una «noble forma de caridad» (cf. Papa Francisco, Videomensaje al Congreso organizado por la CAL-CELAM, 1 de diciembre de 2017)― se requiere que vivan «con pasión su servicio a los pueblos, que vibren con las fibras íntimas de su ethos y cultura, solidarios con sus sufrimientos y esperanzas; políticos que antepongan el bien común a sus intereses privados, que no se dejen amedrentar por los grandes poderes financieros y mediáticos, que sean competentes y pacientes ante problemas complejos, que estén abiertos a escuchar y aprender en el diálogo democrático, que combinen la búsqueda de la justicia con la misericordia y la reconciliación» (ibíd.).
