Candombe, a cultural expression of the Afro-Uruguayan community, was recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at the fourth session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held between 28 September and 2 October 2009.
