5. It is important in this respect to recall that, beyond scientifically verified phenomena, the intellect which God has given us reaches that which is, and not merely the subjective expression of the structures and development of consciousness; and, on the other hand, that the task of interpretation—of hermeneutics—is to try to understand and extricate, while respecting the word expressed, the sense conveyed by a text, and not to recreate, in some fashion, this sense in accordance with arbitrary hypotheses.

A tale proposito occorre ricordare che al di là del dato osservabile, scientificamente verificato, l’intelligenza dataci da Dio raggiunge la realtà (ciò che è), e non soltanto l’espressione soggettiva delle strutture e dell’evoluzione della coscienza; e che, d’altra parte, il compito dell’interpretazione - dell’ermeneutica - è di cercare di comprendere e di enucleare, nel rispetto della parola pronunciata, il significato di cui un testo è espressione, e non di ricreare in qualche modo questo stesso significato secondo l’estro di ipotesi arbitrarie.
