Das ist eine völlig neue Situation. Der Charakter der letzten hundert Jahre war ein anderer. Jetzt ist es natürlich riskant, vielleicht auch ein bisschen großspurig, eine Tendenz von hundert Jahren nach zwei-drei positiven Jahren als ein anderes Zeitalter zu bezeichnen, aber seien wir optimistisch und glauben wir daran, dass wir jetzt nicht einfach zwei-drei gute Jahre haben, sondern ein Zeitalter abschließen, und wir die ersten drei-vier Jahre eines neuen hundertjährigen Zeitalters erleben.

This is a completely new situation: this was not the way of the world over the past one hundred years. Of course it’s risky and perhaps a little self-important to describe a situation which has existed for a hundred years as an era which is now part of history on the strength of just two or three positive recent years; but let us be optimistic and believe that we’ve not just had two or three good years, but that we’ve brought an era to a close, and that we’re living through the first three or four years of a new hundred-year-long era.
