In this respect, as an alternative therapy for leishmaniasis has been raised modifying the conventional formulation meglumine antimoniate (pentavalent antimony salt), developing a transdermal formulation, capable of releasing locally the active pharmaceutical ingredient, thereby reducing the adverse effects associated with the others routes of administration and the pain caused by intralesional treatment (promoting a better adherence of treatment).

Teniendo en cuenta lo antes mencionado, como alternativa terapéutica para la leishmaniosis cutánea se plantea la modificación de la formulación convencional del antimoniato de meglumina (sal de antimonio pentavalente), desarrollando una formulación transdérmica, capaz de liberar desde ese punto el ingrediente farmacéutico activo, reduciendo de esta forma los efectos adversos asociados a la administración por otras vías y el dolor del tratamiento intralesional, lo cual en conjunto promovería la adherencia al tratamiento.
