ويتعين النظر في كل مركب محصول- آفة في إطار نظامه الإيكولوجي الزراعي المحدد، مع الأخذ في الاعتبار لأوجه كثيرة، من بينها المتغيرات المناخية والجغرافية، ووجود أعداء طبيعيين، وتوافر الضوابط البيولوجية، وهيكل ووظيفة المزرعة المعنية، والمتغيرات المناخية الجزئية فيها.
