The role of Aung San Suu Kyi notwithstanding, the limited presence of women in Burmese politics and their relegation to a marginal role, or “tea break advocacy” as women’s rights activists in Burma termed it, does not reflect either their participation in the armed conflict as members of armed groups or in efforts to bring peace.[
