إن النسبة المرتفعة للنيكاراغويين في البلد (حوالي 90 في المائة من مجموع الأجانب) والخلاف بين كوستاريكا ونيكاراغوا بشأن حقوق الملاحة في نهر سان خوان هما عاملان يجب على حكومتَي البلديَن ووسائل الإعلام وضعهما في الاعتبار لتفادي تزايد ظاهرة كراهية الأجانب بين مواطني البلدين.

The high percentage of Nicaraguans in the country (some 90% of all foreigners) and the disagreements between Costa Rica and Nicaragua over navigation rights in the San Juan river are factors that the governments of both countries and the mass media must take into account if they are to avoid the rise of xenophobia between the two nationalities.
