Lejos de interesarse por representar los momentos tensos y violentos de la lidia, como hicieron desde Goya la mayoría de los artistas que se ocuparon de los asuntos taurinos en el siglo XIX, Turina representa el glorioso final de una corrida, en la que el maestro sale a hombros de la afición desde la arena misma por la puerta grande –reservado salidas triunfales posteriores a una excelente faena, parece señalar el interés de Turina no tanto por dejar testimonio fiel de un hecho concreto, sino más bien de inmortalizar la gloria de los matadores tras haber puesto en riesgo su vida delante de un toro.
