But in the southern region of Italy, in the city of Tarento, there was a popular collective dance called the Tarantella, which was said to cure the madness of people bitten by the “wolf spider” (Lycosa tarantula) that was native to that region. The people of Tarento would claim to have been bitten by a spider and therefore have an excuse to dance without the risk of being accused of promiscuity. It was believed that the more people joined in the dance, its healing powers improved.

Pero existía al sur de Italia, en la ciudad de Tarento, una danza popular y colectiva, llamada La Tarantela, la cual se decía que curaba la locura de las personas mordidas por una “araña lobo” originaria de esos territorios (Lycosa tarantula), por lo que los pobladores de Tarento decían haber sido mordidos por una araña y con esa excusa poder bailar sin riesgo de ser acusados de promiscuos y se creía que entre más gente se uniera al baile, aumentaba su poder curativo, buena excusa, ¿no? actualmente es un baile muy popular en España.
