وسيركز البرنامج الفرعي على مواصلة تقديم الدعم إلى دورات اللجنة المخصصة للسكان والتنمية وإلى بلدان المنطقة، في متابعة برنامج عمل المؤتمر الدولي للسكان والتنمية، وفي تطبيق الاستراتيجية الإقليمية لتنفيذ خطة عمل مدريد الدولية المتعلقة بالشيخوخة في أمريكا اللاتينية ومنطقة البحر الكاريبي، وفي رصد أهداف ومقاصد المؤتمرات الرئيسية ومؤتمرات القمة التي تعقدها الأمم المتحدة في المجالين الاقتصــادي والاجتماعي، بما فــي ذلك تلك المحددة فــي إعلان الألفية، والوثيقــة الختامية لمؤتمر القمة العالمي لعام 2005، والبيانات الختامية للمؤتمرات الدولية الأخرى ذات الصلة.

The subprogramme will focus on continuing to provide support to sessions of the Ad Hoc Committee on Population and Development and to the countries of the region, in follow-up to the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development, in fulfilment of the regional strategy for the implementation in Latin America and the Caribbean of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, and in monitoring the goals and objectives of the United Nations major conferences and summits in the economic and social fields, including those set forth in the Millennium Declaration, the 2005 World Summit Outcome and the outcomes of other relevant international conferences.

El subprograma se centrará en seguir prestando apoyo a los períodos de sesiones del Comité especial sobre población y desarrollo y a los países de la región en el seguimiento del Programa de Acción de la Conferencia Internacional sobre Población y Desarrollo, la aplicación de la Estrategia Regional para la Ejecución en América Latina y el Caribe del Plan de Acción Internacional de Madrid sobre el Envejecimiento, y la supervisión del progreso hacia el logro de las metas y los objetivos de las grandes conferencias y cumbres de las Naciones Unidas en las esferas económica y social, incluidos los enunciados en la Declaración del Milenio, el Documento Final de la Cumbre Mundial 2005 y los resultados de otras conferencias internacionales pertinentes.

Il s’agira, pour l’essentiel, de maintenir l’appui aux sessions du Comité spécial sur la population et le développement et aux pays de la région, dans le cadre du suivi du Programme d’action de la Conférence internationale sur la population et le développement, de la mise en œuvre de la Stratégie régionale d’application, en Amérique latine et dans les Caraïbes, du Plan d’action international de Madrid sur le vieillissement et du suivi des buts et objectifs des grandes conférences et réunions au sommet des Nations Unies concernant les domaines économique et social, notamment ceux énoncés dans la Déclaration du Millénaire, le Document final du Sommet mondial de 2005 et les textes issus d’autres conférences internationales pertinentes.
