The apparatus for treating food waste includes: a food waste collection box disposed in a drain of a sink to collect food waste discharged from the sink; a first food waste treatment unit coupled to the food waste collection box to primarily pulverize the food waste put through the food waste collection box to discharge the pulverized food waste; and a second food waste treatment unit in which the food waste primarily pulverized by the first food waste treatment unit and discharged together with water is secondarily pulverized, microorganisms are introduced into the primarily pulverized food waste to decompose the food waste and to precipitate and stir the food waste in which the microorganisms are introduced, and then, the food waste having a relatively large particle size is filtered and the atomized food waste is discharged together with water through a drain.

개시된 본 발명에 의한 음식물 쓰레기 처리장치는, 싱크대의 배수구에 설치되어 싱크대로부터 배출되는 음식물 쓰레기를 수거하는 음식물 쓰레기 수거통; 상기 음식물 쓰레기 수거통에 결합되어 음식물 쓰레기 수거통을 통하여 투입되는 음식물 쓰레기를 1차 분쇄하여 배출하는 1차 음식물 쓰레기 처리유닛; 및 상기 1차 음식물 쓰레기 처리유닛에서 1차 분쇄되어 물과 함께 배출되는 음식물 쓰레기를 미세하게 2차 분쇄하고, 분쇄된 음식물 쓰레기의 분해를 위한 미생물을 투여하며, 미생물이 투여된 음식물 쓰레기를 침전 및 교반시켜 큰 입자의 음식물 쓰레기는 걸러 내고 미립자의 음식물 쓰레기는 물과 함께 하수도로 배출하는 2차 음식물 쓰레기 처리유닛;을 포함한다.
