In the second part of this article we shall examine the meaning of recognition, its legal basis and its effects, especially for the Societies’ status as a component of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The third and last aspect of the legal status of National Societies concerns their relationship with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which was founded in 1919 under the name League of Red Cross Societies.
