Having spent a good part of the late 1920s trying to establish an independent labour newspaper to replace the Banner and to resurrect the ILP, Marks, the “Grand-dad of the Ontario labour movement,” as he was described in the Labor Leader, died of heart failure at his home in Toronto on 14 Nov. 1932.

Après avoir passé une grande partie de la fin des années 1920 à essayer de fonder un journal ouvrier indépendant pour remplacer l’Industrial Banner et de faire renaître l’Independent Labor Party of Ontario, Joseph Taylor Marks, le « grand-papa du mouvement ouvrier ontarien », comme il fut décrit dans le Labor Leader, mourut d’une insuffisance cardiaque chez lui, à Toronto, le 14 novembre 1932.
