Kommissionen har derfor i januar 1996 sendt en advarsel til Det Internationale Fodboldforbund (FIFA) og til Sammenslutningen af Europaeiske Fodboldforbund (UEFA) vedroerende en overtraedelsesprocedure i henhold til EF-traktatens artikel 85, stk. 1, og i henhold til artikel 53, stk. 1, i aftalen om Det Europaeiske OEkonomiske Samarbejdsomraade (EOES) vedroerende de to forbunds regler, som EF-Domstolen har erklaeret for ulovlige i henhold til EF-traktatens artikel 48.

Daher wurden FIFA und UEFA im Januar 1996 schriftlich auf die Möglichkeit eines Verfahrens nach Artikel 85 Absatz 1 EG-Vertrag und Artikel 53 Absatz 1 EWR-Abkommen wegen der Verbandsregeln hingewiesen, die der Gerichtshof für unvereinbar mit Artikel 48 EG-Vertrag erklärt hatte.

Thus, in January 1996, an official warning was sent to the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) on infringement proceedings under Article 85(1) of the EC Treaty and Article 53(1) of the EEA Agreement regarding the rules applied by the two organizations and held by the Court to be in breach of Article 48 of the EC Treaty.
