Since there are many samples collected in previous dates and almost all the documents ruling over the functions of the Botanical Garden in the beginning of the century refer to the existence of wood samples in the collection, one can deduce that the current collection is the result of a grouping of previous existent collections that were probably maintained by the wood anatomists that worked in the old Plant Biology Institute and in the Forest Service.

Como existen muchas muestras recogidas en fechas anteriores y prácticamente todos los documentos que estandarizan las funciones del Jardín Botánico en el inicio del siglo hacen referencia a la presencia de muestras de madera como parte del acervo, se lo puede deducir que la actual colección resulta de una fusión de colecciones preexistentes, provavelmente mantenidas por los anatomistas de la madera que trabajaran en los antiguos Instituto de Biología Vegetal y en el Servicio Forestal.
