Following rectification work at Springburn it ran to King's Cross on an empty stock train before resuming its second main-line career on 2 January 1997 on the "Deltic Reunion" charter to Hull and Harrogate, during which it visited the turntable within the National Railway Museum, where it stood alongside the prototype.

Na herstelwerkzaamheden in Springburn werd de locomotief in een opzendtrein naar King's Cross vervoerd voordat de tweede hoofdlijn carrière op 2 januari 1997 werd hervat met de "Deltic Reunion" charter naar Hull en Harrogate, waarbij onderweg de draaischijf in het National Railway Museum werd bezocht zodat de D9000 naast het prototype te zien was.
