Disclosed is a portable electronic apparatus which is provided with: an operating unit; a display unit which can display a standby image; a storage unit, which can store a text object, and a shortcut object that is associated with information different from the text object; and a control unit, which, at the time of starting up the standby image (step (S12)), executes text display processing whereby the text object is displayed in the standby image (step (S13)), and which, after a predetermined time is elapsed, switches the text display processing to shortcut display processing whereby the shortcut object is displayed in the standby image (step (S15)).
