Nicht weniger streng sind die Worte des Jakobus: »Wenn in eure Versammlung ein Mann mit goldenen Ringen und prächtiger Kleidung kommt, und zugleich kommt ein Armer in schmutziger Kleidung, und ihr blickt auf den Mann in der prächtigen Kleidung und sagt: Setz dich hier auf den guten Platz!, und zu dem Armen sagt ihr: Du kannst dort stehen!, oder: Setz dich zu meinen Füßen! — macht ihr dann nicht untereinander Unterschiede und fällt Urteile aufgrund verwerflicher Überlegungen?«

James is equally forceful in what he writes: "If a man with gold rings and in fine clothing comes into your assembly and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, and you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, 'Take a seat here, please', while you say to the poor man, 'Stand there', or, 'Sit at my feet', have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?"
