The transformation of a Low into a High Index type is characterized by the following points: occurrence of a pronounced increase of pressure and a simultaneous warming of the whole troposphere above the subtropical western Atlantic as long as a strongly marked Low Index lasts; expansion of this influence (warm wave of vast extension) on a preferred course around the Northern Hemisphere; destruction of the cold air tongues or troughs of the pressure field of the Low Index circulation (cut-off processes) and formation of a more zonal jetstream in higher latitudes.

La transformation d'un type low index en un type high index présente les caractères suivants: hausse marquée de pression accompagnée d'un réchauffement de toute la troposphère de la partie subtropicale ouest de l'Atlantique apparaissant pendant la durée d'un type bien développé à low index; extension de cette vague de chaleur à grande échelle sur un parcours privilégié, tout autour de l'hémisphère Nord; destruction des langues d'air froin et des couloirs dépressionnaires de la circulation low index et formation d'un jet stream plus zonal aux hautes latitudes.
