L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation de diols (1a) et (1b) avec de l'eau et d'hydrogénation du 5-[1-(4-chlorophényl)-méth-(E)-ylidène]-1-hydroxyméthyl-2,2-diméthyl-cyclopentanol (III) résultant par l'hydrogène, en présence d'un catalyseur métallique.
