Aus diesem Grund wurden das Wort und der Gestus des »Effata« als eines der Zeichen in den Taufritus eingefügt, die dessen Bedeutung erklären: während der Priester den Mund und die Ohren des Neugetauften berührt, spricht er: »Effata« und betet, daß er bald das Wort Gottes hören und seinen Glauben bekennen könne.

For this reason the word and the action of the “ephphatha” have been integrated into the Rite of Baptism as one of the signs that explain its meaning: the priest, touching the mouth and ears of the newly baptized person says: “ephphatha”, praying that he or she may soon hear the word of God and profess the faith.
