In March 1813, when having knowledge of the disembarkation of the Brigadier Antonio Pareja, sent by the Viceroy of Peru to choke the emancipation in Chile, assumed as Commander in chief of the Army and fought in Yerbas Buenas, San Carlos, Talcahuano and put in site to the city of Chillán, from where he had to retire, for not t counting on the suitable resources.

En marzo de 1813, al tener conocimiento del desembarco del Brigadier Antonio Pareja, enviado por el Virrey del Perú a sofocar la emancipación de Chile, asumió como General en Jefe del Ejército y combatió en Yerbas Buenas, San Carlos, Talcahuano y puso en sitio la ciudad de Chillán, desde donde se tuvo que retirar por no contar con los medios adecuados.
