Years before Richard Prince and the artists of the Pictures Generation appropriated mass media imagery and the aesthetic of the advertising industry, Flack’s painting appealed to the same subconscious feelings and promises appealed to in perfume ads and glossy magazines: sexual desirability, wealth, seduction.
