Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is the most common rheumatic disease in children; however, the combination of arthritis and thrombocytopenia or a Rayanaud phenomenon on the one hand and ana on the other hand, should alert the clinician for the possible presence of a much rarer autoimmune disease such as systemic lupus erythematosus or systemic sclerosis.

Juveniele idiopathische artritis is dienaangaande het meest voorkomende ziektebeeld; de combinatie van gewrichtsklachten met trombocytopenie of een Raynaud-fenomeen enerzijds en ana anderzijds kan evenwel een eerste teken zijn van een meer zeldzame systemische auto-immuunziekte, zoals systemische lupus erythematosus of systemische sclerose, waarvan de eerste tekenen zich tijdens de kinderjaren kunnen voordoen.
