The current concern about the exchange rate and external value of the euro prompts the Economic and Social Committee to make the following points. Given the sound economic fundamentals in the EU and the existence of clearly oriented, stable growth, the single European currency is plainly undervalued externally in spite of a high degree of stability.

Les préoccupations actuelles relatives aux taux de change et à la valeur extérieure de l'euro offrent au Comité économique et social l'occasion d'adopter la position suivante: compte tenu de la stabilité des paramètres fondamentaux de l'évolution économique européenne et d'un parcours orienté vers une croissance durable, la monnaie comune européenne est clairement sous-évaluée du point de vue du taux de change et ce malgré une stabilité élevée.

Alla luce delle attuali preoccupazioni relative al tasso di cambio e al valore esterno dell'euro, il Comitato osserva che, tenuto conto della stabilità dei fondamentali dello sviluppo economico europeo e della presenza di un percorso di crescita chiaramente orientato e altrettanto solido, la moneta unica europea appare, nonostante un'elevata stabilità, chiaramente sottovalutata sotto il profilo del valore esterno.

Mot bakgrund av den aktuella oron för eurons växelkurs och värde mot omvärlden intar ESK följande position: Med hänsyn till att den europeiska ekonomiska utvecklingen uppvisar stabila grundläggande data och en tydligt utstakad stabil tillväxtkurs, är den gemensamma europeiska valutan trots hög stabilitet tydligt undervärderad mot omvärldens valutor.
