Das Thema des Durstes durchzieht das ganze Johannesevangelium: angefangen bei der Begegnung mit der Samariterin bis hin zur großen Prophezeiung während des Laubhüttenfestes (Joh 7,37–38) und zum Kreuz, als Jesus vor seinem Tod sagte, damit sich die Schrift erfüllte: »Mich dürstet« (Joh 19,28).

The theme of thirst runs throughout John's Gospel: from the meeting with the Samaritan woman to the great prophecy during the feast of Tabernacles (Jn 7: 37-38), even to the Cross, when Jesus, before he dies, said to fulfil the Scriptures: "I thirst" (Jn 19: 28).
