A detection unit (52) detects that a product has been picked up if, subsequent to sensing a person's hand within a first region that is set in accordance with the position of the product, the person's hand is not sensed within a second region that is the same as or contains the first region and the product is not sensed with a product-sensing region that is set in accordance with the aforementioned position.
