Since the entry into force of the International Convention on the Control of Harmful Anti-fouling Systems on Ships in 2008, anti-fouling systems containing organotin compounds acting as biocides have been removed from the market and replaced with effective alternative anti‐fouling systems by members of the International Paint and Printing Ink Council, who produce over 90 per cent of the world’s anti-fouling paints.

Desde que entró en vigor el Convenio internacional sobre el control de los sistemas antiincrustantes perjudiciales en los buques en 2008, el Consejo Internacional de Pinturas y de Tintas de Impresión, cuyos afiliados producen más del 90% de las pinturas antiincrustantes del mundo, ha retirado del mercado los sistemas antiincrustantes que contienen compuestos de organotina que poseen propiedades biocidas y los ha sustituido por otros sistemas antiincrustantes efectivos .
