Μετά την επανάσταση του 1917 η κυβέρνηση κατέσχεσε τη συλλογή του (διάταγμα του Λαϊκού Συμβουλίου, υπογεγραμμένο από τον Λένιν, 8 Νοεμβρίου 1918), ενώ ο Σούκιν διέφυγε στο Παρίσι, όπου και πέθανε το 1936.

After the 1917 Revolution, the government appropriated his collection (decree of the Council of the people commissioners, signed Lenin, November 8, 1918) while Shchukin escaped to Paris, where he died in 1936.
