وعلى أعتاب العملية التحضيرية الحاسمة لأطفال المستقبل نأمل بعزم أكيد في أن نعمل معا، تلهمنا نفس الرغبة في المساهمة في التنفيذ العالمي لحقوق الطفل، وفي أن نهيئ الجمعية العامة لإعادة تجربة عام 1990 التي بدا فيها كل شيء ممكنا، وفي أنه عشية 21 أيلول/سبتمبر 2001، عند بداية تلك الليلة، سيختبر المشاركون في الدورة الاستثنائية المكرسة للطفل ليس فحسب شعورهم بالارتياح الذي يسببه ذلك الإنجاز، ولكن أيضا اقتناعهم الحازم بأن تنفيذ الأهداف الجديدة التي ستضعها هذه الدورة سيكون في متناول أيديهم.

On the threshold of the decisive preparatory process for our children’s future, we hope resolutely, working together and inspired by the same desire to contribute to the universal implementation of the rights of the child, that we will prepare the General Assembly to repeat the experience of 1990, in which everything seemed possible, and that on the eve of 21 September 2001, at the beginning of that night, the participants of the special session devoted to children will experience, not only the feeling of well-being that accomplishment brings, but also the firm conviction that the new objectives to be established will be within their grasp.

En los umbrales del proceso preparatorio, determinante para el futuro de nuestros niños, hacemos firmes votos para que juntos, animados por el mismo deseo de contribuir a que se respeten universalmente los derechos del niño, preparemos a nuestra Asamblea General para que recree la experiencia de 1990, en la que todo parecía posible, y para que en la tarde del 21 de septiembre de 2001, o más bien, sin duda, al comienzo de esa noche, los que hayan participado en el período extraordinario de sesiones dedicado a la infancia experimenten, al mismo tiempo que el bienestar que da el sentimiento del deber cumplido, el convencimiento inquebrantable de que los nuevos objetivos fijados están a su alcance.

Au seuil du processus préparatoire déterminant pour l’avenir de nos enfants, nous formons résolument le voeu qu’ensemble, animés par le même désir de contribuer à la mise en œuvre universelle des droits de l’enfant, nous préparions notre Assemblée générale à renouveler l’expérience de 1990 où tout paraissait possible et qu’au soir du 21 septembre 2001, ou plutôt sans doute au bout de sa nuit, les participants à la session extraordinaire consacrée aux enfants ressentent, en même temps que le bien-être que procure le sentiment du devoir accompli, la conviction inébranlable que les nouveaux objectifs qu’ils se seront fixés seront à leur portée.

Накануне решающего этапа подготовки к будущему наших детей мы преисполнены искренней надежды, что трудясь совместно, вдохновленные тем же стремлением содействовать всеобщему осуществлению прав ребенка, мы подготовим Генеральную Ассамблею к повторению опыта 1990 года, когда возможным казалось все, и что накануне 21 сентября 2001 года, вечером предыдущего дня, участники посвященной детям специальной сессии, ощутят не только то чувство удовлетворения, которое приносят свершения, но и твердую убежденность в том, что те новые цели, которые им предстоит установить, будут для них достижимы.
