Detailed examination of the number two engine compartment and related components did not reveal the exact source of the fire. During the examination, the investigation team questioned the Technical Authority about the resistance to heat and chaffing for the fuel supply lines in the number 2 engine (Photo 36).

Le CETQ a analysé ces gaines, et a conclu qu’elles n’ont été que faiblement abîmées jusqu’à ce que la température dépasse la barre des 700 degrés F. Par contre, un raccordement en T en aluminium situé sur un purgeur au bas du moteur, avait fondu (température approximative de 1 180 °F), et certaines conduites d’alimentation en carburant avaient été endommagées par la chaleur et présentaient des dépôts de suie.
