وكان الغرض من ذلك هو تبادل الآراء عن مفهوم "المحفل الاجتماعي"، والنظر في كيفية مساهمة هذا المحفل بصورة أفضل في عمل اللجنة الفرعية وغيرها من آليات الأمم المتحدة المعنية بحقوق الإنسان من خلال العمل كغرفة تحضير فكرية للجنة الفرعية في جهودها لتوضيح العلاقة بين حقوق الإنسان والقضايا الاجتماعية وقابلية التأثر بالأخطار.

The purpose was to exchange views on the concept of the Social Forum and to consider how such a forum could better contribute to the work of the Sub‐Commission and other United Nations human rights mechanisms by acting as an “intellectual antechamber” of the Sub-Commission in its efforts to clarify the relationship between human rights, social issues and vulnerability.

La finalidad era intercambiar opiniones sobre el concepto de Foro Social y examinar cuál sería la mejor manera en que un foro de ese tipo podía contribuir a la labor de la Subcomisión y de otros mecanismos de derechos humanos de las Naciones Unidas, actuando como "antecámara intelectual" de la Subcomisión en sus esfuerzos por aclarar las relaciones entre los derechos humanos, las cuestiones sociales y la vulnerabilidad.

L’objet de ce débat était de permettre aux participants de procéder à un échange de vues sur le concept du Forum social et de voir comment celui‐ci pourrait le mieux concourir aux objectifs poursuivis par la Sous‐Commission et d’autres mécanismes de protection des droits de l’homme en faisant office d’«antichambre intellectuelle» de la Sous‐Commission, c’est‐à‐dire en l’aidant à préciser la relation entre droits de l’homme, questions sociales et vulnérabilité.

Цель дискуссии состояла в том, чтобы обменяться мнениями относительно концепции Социального форума и рассмотреть вопрос, каким образом такой форум мог бы лучше способствовать работе Подкомиссии и других правозащитных механизмов Организации Объединенных Наций, выполняя роль своего рода "интеллектуальной прихожей" Подкомиссии в ее усилиях по разъяснению взаимосвязи между правами человека, социальными вопросами и уязвимостью.
