ويشبه المجلس في جوانب كثيرة المجلس الدستوري الفرنسي مع بعض الفروق، ومنها الولاية الخاصة بالمراقبة اللاحقة لدستورية الأفعال والنظر علانية في القضايا المتعلقة بالانتخابات العامة.

The Council recalls in many respects the Constitutional Council of France with some differences, including the mandate for a posteriori control of the constitutionality of acts and the public hearing of cases relating to general elections.
