All but a handful of these (the teacher, the nurse, the pastor- who are persons recruited from outside the island by the Pitcairn Government and employed on a temporary basis- and their respective families) are native Pitcairners, i.e. they are all descended from the original settlers- some of the mutineers from HMS Bounty and the Tahitian men and women who accompanied them- who arrived in Pitcairn in January # and whose descendants have constituted the sole population of Pitcairn ever since
