A year after her first appearance on stage Queen Ida and the Bon Temps Band signed with the record label GNP/Crescendo, and her first record "Play the Zydeco" demonstrated her style combining Zydeco with a Tex Mex sound.

Fue bautizada con el nombre artístico de "Queen Ida" tras ser elegida reina de un fiesta Mardi Gras. Tan sólo un año después de debutar en los escenarios con Queen Ida and the Bon Temps Band, firmó un contrato con la discográfica GNP/Crescendo, y su primer álbum "Play the Zydeco" combinó sonidos Zydeco con Tex Mex.
