Concerning biosafety, there are European Community directives in the area of occupational health and safety, notably directives 89/391/EC on improvements of health and safety at work, 89/656/EC on personal protective equipment, 98/24/EC on the protection of workers from the risks related to chemical agents and 2000/54/EC on the protection of workers from the risks related to biological agents.
