The commission's report reflects the approach taken by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who wants Japan's space policy integrated with the country's military defense strategy and closely coordinated with the United States. Intelligence gathered by the IGS satellites on North Korea's missile and nuclear programs can now be shared not only with the U.S. but also with South Korea under the terms of the General Security of Military Information Agreement signed by the three countries in late 2016.
