وفقا لما جاء في تقرير المتابعة السابق (E/1999/20) شكلت عملية الحفر العميق، المسماة بوسينتورو 97، أهم أنشطة الطور الثاني من دراسات الجدوى وهي تمثل منعطفا مهما جدا في سير الدراسات.

As the previous progress report (E/1999/20) indicated, the deep drilling survey, Bucentaur 97, was the most significant activity in stage F2 and represented a turning point in the study process, because it brought to light unexpected geological problems in the deep section of the sill of the strait, which showed that the need for geological investigation by means of offshore drilling would entail far greater technical difficulties, costs and time demands than at first thought.

Como se recordaba en el informe anterior (E/1999/20), la campaña de perforaciones profundas, llamada Bucentauro 97, había sido la principal actividad de la fase F2 y también constituyó un hito muy importante en el proceso de estudio, pues había puesto de manifiesto realidades geológicas imprevistas en la parte profunda del fondo del Estrecho, lo que demostraba que la necesidad de investigaciones geológicas por perforaciones profundas superaba considerablemente las previsiones, tanto en lo atinente a la dificultad técnica de las perforaciones mar adentro como en relación con los costos y las demoras.

Comme le rappelait le rapport de suivi précédent (E/1999/20), la campagne de forages profonds, nommée Bucentaur 97, avait constitué l’activité principale de la phase F2 et aussi un jalon très important dans le processus d’étude, car elle avait révélé des réalités géologiques inattendues à la partie profonde du seuil du détroit, ceci montrant que le besoin d’investigations géologiques par forages profonds dépassait considérablement les prévisions, aussi bien en termes de difficulté technique de forage offshore qu’en termes de coûts et de délais.

Как говорилось в предыдущем докладе о проделанной работе (E/1999/20), кампания по проведению разведки методом глубокого бурения «Бусентаур 97» — главное мероприятие этапа (ТЭО-2) — явилось также исключительно важным этапом всего процесса проектно-исследовательских работ, т.к. при ее проведении были выявлены неожиданные геологические особенности структуры глубокой части подводного порога пролива, в результате чего стало ясно, что и стоимость, и сроки работ, связанных с проведением геологических исследований методом глубокого бурения, значительно превысят предусматривавшиеся, что обусловлено технической сложностью офшорного бурения.
