وسيضطلع مكتب الأمين العام المساعد على نحو رئيسي بالمسؤوليات التي كانت في السابق منوطة بمدير مكتب الأمم المتحدة للدعم في الصومال، مع توفير ما يلزم لإتاحة عناصر للحماية الأمنية اللصيقة بما يتناسب مع رتبة الأمين العام المساعد ومهامه، بالإضافة إلى تعيين مساعد خاص وتوفير ما هو مطلوب من الدعم الإداري.

The Office of the Assistant Secretary-General will mainly assume responsibilities that were formerly under the authority of the Director of UNSOS, while provision will be made for appropriate security close protection elements commensurate with the level and functions of the Assistant Secretary-General, as well as a Special Assistant and requisite administrative support.

La Oficina del Subsecretario General asumirá principalmente responsabilidades que anteriormente se encontraban bajo la autoridad del Director de la UNSOS, y se consignarán créditos para disponer de una dotación apropiada de escolta de seguridad en consonancia con el nivel y las funciones del Subsecretario General, así como un Auxiliar Especial y el apoyo administrativo necesario.
