สาเหตุหลักมาจากการเพิ่มสูงขึ้นของราคาพลังงาน ตามการปรับตัวสูงขึ้นอย่างต่อเนื่องของราคาน้ํามันดิบในตลาดโลก ประกอบกับการทยอยเก็บเงินเข้ากองทุนน้ํามันเชื้อเพลิง ส่งผลให้ราคาขายปลีกน้ํามันเชื้อเพลิงในประเทศ โดยเฉพาะราคาน้ํามันเบนซินและแก๊สโซฮอล์เพิ่มสูงขึ้น ส่วนอัตราเงินเฟ้อพื้นฐานเท่ากับร้อยละ 2.7 ชะลอตัวต่อเนื่องจากไตรมาสก่อนที่อยู่ที่ร้อยละ 2.8 ตามการชะลอตัวของราคาอาหารสําเร็จรูปที่บริโภคทั้งในและนอกบ้าน ตลอดจนราคาเครื่องประกอบอาหารประเภทน้ําตาล และน้ํามันพืช3 ดัชนีราคาผู้ผลิตในไตรมาสแรกของปี 2555 เท่ากับร้อยละ 2.4 ชะลอตัวจากไตรมาสก่อน ซึ่งอยู่ที่ร้อยละ 4.1 เป็นผลมาจากการชะลอตัวของราคาผลิตภัณฑ์อุตสาหกรรม และผลิตภัณฑ์เหมืองแร่ ทั้งนี ้ราคาผลิตภัณฑ์ยางและพลาสติกในไตรมาสนี้ลดลงอย่างมาก
